The Society Annual Lecture 1947: Egyptian Shipping

By Eric Marx, published August 1947

Abstract

The lecture placed the study of Ancient Egypt into the period between 2700 and 1200 BC. Evidence for the study comes from carvings and paintings, wall reliefs and ritual vessels. Much evidence comes from texts, which refer to ships, the sea and sea voyages. The method of construction is outlined, before the principal classes of ships were discussed. Decoration and cargoes are also summarised.
