The Society Annual Lecture 1947: Egyptian Shipping

By Eric Marx, published August 1947

Abstract

Marx commences his lecture by outlining the period to be covered, some fifteen hundred years, and the dynasties within that timescale. In the next section he provides details of the extensive evidence that exists from the research period, more in fact than is available for the following twenty-six centuries. He then proceeds to explain that Egyptian shipping was built by methods entirely different to those of the present time and requires some explanation of the general principles used in their construction. The bulk of the lecture entailed an examination of the actual ships and their methods of construction.
