Torres or Prado?

Abstract

A detailed discussion into the leadership of the Spanish expedition which sailed from Callao, Chile in 1605 to find Great South Land, later known as Australia. The three members of the expedition, Prado,Torres and Quiros all were contenders for the command. The paper considers the three men and their roles in the expedition in the context of contemporary documents. The evidence is inconclusive and no firm conclusion is reached.
