Abstract
A study of the ways and means of payment to shipwrights and labour at the Royal Dockyards after 1496. The growth of the various forces as the yards developed is studied and the varying pay rates and perquisites allowed or withdrawn are contrasted with the ways in which the system was subverted for good or ill.
